Creative Networks welcomes Jan Faull, Archive Producer at the British Film Institute (BFI) who will introduce and explore
highlights from key documentary projects made possible through the BFI National Archive.
Increased access to our documentary heritage provides new opportunities for the content to be seen and re-evaluated by a wide audience.
Does history repeat itself? How do films from the 1940s and 50s relate to modern society? This is explored in Britain Recut – a series of short films made in association with Mosaic Films. Channel 4 hosted a competition which challenged
entrants to repurpose selections from public information films of fifty years ago. The four winning entries were transmitted in the Three Minute Wonder slot in May 2008 and form a fascinating look at life in contemporary Britain.
To join us for this FREE event, please email creative.networks@tic.ac.uk or call Dave Taylor on 0121 331 5400.

Appologies for the mistake on yesterday's Christmas Party invite.. it had been a long day. The URL for our website suffered a typo and listed .co.uk instead of .org.uk
The time’s come to dig out last year’s reindeer ears and join us for a jolly Christmas get together in a funky venue, thanks to our friends at Kerrang! Radio.
From 6.30pm on Tuesday 16th December, we’re invited to partake of festive parlour games hosted by one of Kerrang’s presenters and suitably stylish entertainment. However, for any scrooges, humbuggers or serious networkers amongst us there’ll be space for those who want to escape the organised frivolity. There’s no formality, just a chance to chill out and chat to new Creative Republic friends you’ve made over the year and resolve to come to more Creative Republic events next year!
There’ll be free food and nibbles, you just need to bring mistletoe and a Santa hat (not forgetting those reindeers ears) ……... Here’s the details:

Creative Republic are supporting the exhibition below and will be attending the opening night this weekend.
Exhibition date: 1st - 14th Nov 2008
04 Lichfield Passage, Wolverhampton WV1 1DZ
More information call Dean: 07828 740 955
Please respond to Dean at daytonadean@hotmail.com if you would like to attend.
- Tuesday 28th October: 5.30 for 6.00pm start
- The evening also includes refreshments and networking
- Location: ICE, Technology Park, Puma Way, Coventry CV1 2TT
“Creative Republic has a remit to reflect the views and aspirations of the creative industries throughout the West Midlands region. At present, the membership and activities have to an extent concentrated on the Birmingham area. But all that is about to change! In a series of initiatives spread throughout the West Midlands, Creative Republic seeks to extend its membership, scope and reach.
Coventry and Warwickshire is a hot-bed of creative talent – with notable strengths in gaming, performing arts and media – we want to provide a forum for creatives in Coventry and Warwickshire to meet, find out about one another and discuss issues that might affect your businesses. In Birmingham we have already:
We want to start the conversation with you here in Coventry and would therefore like to invite to you an introductory meeting where you can find out about Creative Republic, our charter and our aspirations. You can tell us what you want to see happen in your sector in your area, and we can start to make relationships with the people who can make a difference.
Creative Republic was formed because it sometimes feels as if issues that affect us as an industry are overlooked by people and organisations that have the power to help and support us to grow, as well as those responsible for many areas of what the West Midlands is all about.
To date there’s nobody speaking for us collectively to make our opinions heard. We’d like to see that change so we’ve set up Creative Republic to be that voice.
Please join us at this introductory evening. There will be a short presentation to find out more about Creative Republic and what it might do for your business and your region. We will invite you to show your initial interest by signing our charter. Then we’ll have drinks and get to know one another and find out what Creative Republic can do for you in Coventry and Warwickshire.

There are more details in the brochure on our website www.creativerepublic.org.uk or at www.birminghambookfestival.org. If you’d like to book tickets, simply ring the box office on 0121 303 2323 and mention Creative Republic to get your discount.

In addition to hosting our own programme of activity, Creative Republic is pleased to make certain other organisation’s events available to Charter signatories. We hope that these events will enhance your involvement with Creative Republic and provide valuable networking opportunities.
We are therefore delighted to have been invited by the Royal Society of Arts West Midlands to attend the Gala Premiere of Chasing Fate, the latest project from Leaps & Bounds, on Friday 17th October at Birmingham Hippodrome.
Leaps & Bounds is the West Midlands based charity that works exclusively with disadvantaged and at risk young people aged 15 to 19. In 2006 it delivered the acclaimed Ballet Hoo! project that brought ballet and personal development to a group of vulnerable teenagers in partnership with Birmingham Royal Ballet. The project was supported by Channel 4 and to build on this success, Leaps & Bounds has been working with Birmingham Hippodrome to create Chasing Fate.
Chasing Fate is a new piece of musical theatre created for and by a group of 70 exceptional young people who have worked with a team of experts from the West End, television and Broadway. The cast blends established performers with young people appearing in a professional production for the first time. It is also the start of a major new development for Leaps & Bounds as it embarks on a national programme of work with young people.
We are invited for pre-show drinks in the Pinsent Masons Suite (Thorp Street entrance) from 6.30pm, with the performance starting at 7.30pm. Timings for the evening are:
The cost of £15 per person includes a ticket for the performance, glass of wine on arrival and a complimentary programme. The Hippodrome and Leaps & Bounds are kindly sponsoring the drinks reception and programmes. To support the ongoing work of Leaps & Bounds, the RSA have agreed to donate half of the funds generated from the sale of tickets for RSA Fellows and Creative Republic guests to the charity after the event.
If you would like to attend, please return the booking form with your cheque by 30th September to Lorraine Francis, RSA West Midlands Regional Secretary, Weave Marketing, 35 St Paul’s Square, Birmingham B3 1QX. Please make your cheque payable to “RSA West Midlands”. Email reservations (to rsa@weavemarketing.co.uk) will be held for 5 days and priority will be given to bookings received with payment. If you have any queries please contact Lorraine Francis direct on 0121 232 4650 or rsa@weavemarketing.co.uk. Your ticket(s) will be available for collection in the main Hippodrome foyer from 6.30pm on the night of the performance.
I do hope that you will be able to join us in celebrating what promises to be a very special evening.
Yours sincerely
