We are setting up a lobbying and representative group for all of us who work in similar areas. That includes advertising, architecture, arts and antiques, crafts, design, digital media, designer fashion, film and video, music, performing arts, publishing, theatre, radio, tv and software, and applied arts for those involved in other ways that aren’t listed here.
We’ve been busy getting involved in things like the Birmingham Big City Plan, the Regional Economic Strategy, and other high-level decision making that goes on often behind the scenes. We want you to join us if you’re in or are interested in the creative or cultural industries, but first we’re working on a package of benefits that you would receive as a Creative Republic member. We’re keen to bring people in the sector together so we’ll be putting together a series of high level events featuring exciting speakers, new venues, networking opportunities and much more besides.Basically, Creative Republic comes down to three things: representation and lobbying, networking and commissioning research. And a lot of those things are to do with communication. We want conversations to happen, so early in 2007 we got together with Pete Ashton and have been supporting and funding the Created in Birmingham blog.
Right now it’s still early days, but when we have our membership offer fully packaged up and ready to go we’d like you to become a member. We’re also looking for people who are prepared to get involved on a voluntary basis to help us make Creative Republic a success. We’re particularly interested in connecting with people involved in software, games, architecture and fashion. Join us now and sign our charter!
